It’s official! We’ve been named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Wellbeing (2023) by Great Place to Work®, the global authority on workplace culture. First Central has ranked in the top 10 (7th) in the Super Large Organisations category.

Our Culture and Engagement team drives our Wellbeing strategy, and our approach is holistic. Throughout the year we have events, communication and opportunities galore for colleagues to learn more about many different areas of Wellbeing, such as Physical Health, Mental Health, Resilience and Stress, Financial Wellbeing, Social Wellbeing and Nutrition. We’re also really focused on creating solid policies and promises around the topic of Wellbeing so that colleagues’ feel supported at work.

Our Wellbeing activity’s just one of the reasons colleagues at First Central believe our workplace is impressive. Great Place to Work’s culture experts analysed thousands of employee surveys, assessing people’s holistic experiences to determine the UK's Best Workplaces™ for Wellbeing list. The surveys asked colleagues to comment on how their company supports their work-life balance, sense of fulfilment, job satisfaction, psychological safety, and financial security. Evaluations also included an assessment of how well the organisation delivers a consistent employee experience across all departments and seniority levels.

We’re really pleased to see what colleagues had to say about our Wellbeing efforts in the survey:

“I have never worked anywhere that takes the employee experience so seriously. The amount of wellbeing events we have access to is incredible, people are really opening up in some of these events and sharing personal stories, which I think is testament to the safe environment First Central are trying to create. I always have opportunities to learn and develop, nothing is ever off-limits.”

“First Central cares a lot about us, they are always offering different services, for instance, one to one talks with a financial advisor, arranging for private health checks for colleagues, mental health awareness talks... all of these things are at no cost to us and this is something that I have not experienced anywhere else. It is clear from the services that First Central offer that they care about their colleagues and are always conscious of ways to help their colleagues with different life issues.”

“I love how much importance the company puts on its employee's wellbeing. There is support of all kinds available across the business, and it's clear that they are always looking at what can be improved or new ways to support employees.”

“At the heart of every organisation are its people and looking after their wellbeing should be much more than a package of impressive perks on a careers website,” explains Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place to Work® UK. “We know when employees feel genuinely contented and at ease within their roles, they are much more engaged and productive. Now in our second year of hosting the UK's Best Workplaces™ for Wellbeing list, we’re once again able to showcase the leading organisations providing cultures conducive to outstanding psychological, physical and social wellbeing. A huge congratulations to First Central for making this prestigious list.”

Our Chief People Officer, Jo McGowan, said “I am very proud to work for a company that champions Wellbeing. Over the past 18 months we’ve really invested in our Wellbeing programme of activity and have been exploring how we can provide colleagues with both reactive and proactive wellbeing support. It’s encouraging to see us rank in the top 10 in the UK’s Best Workplaces for Wellbeing, and I look forward to us continuing to focus our efforts on improving our colleagues’ experiences at work.”
