In celebration of the recent Global Collaboration Week, which ran from 14th – 20th September, First Central colleagues were challenged to compete in the Mighty Move 2020, with the aim of collectively ‘travelling’ over 7,000km in order to raise money for our local community partners.

Each kilometre represented a person or a family that’s helped by the four charities that we support, with teams throughout the business and across our four offices signing up to take part, collaborating together to move towards our ambitious target.

After a week of swimming, walking, cycling, and even an impressive fancy dress extravaganza, we’re delighted to report that we smashed our target, ending the week at an incredible 7,162km travelled! This distance is the equivalent of travelling between our Haywards Heath office and the Bahamas, or our Manchester office and New Delhi.

While we weren’t treated to Caribbean sunshine or the colour and culture of North India, the real reward of our colleagues’ efforts was raising £12,300 for charity, with the figure still climbing as more donations come in.

While nothing can be taken away from the collective effort, there was a sense of friendly competition felt throughout the week, with each team vying to record the most kilometres travelled. Rewards were also available to those who could cover distance most creatively and the team with the best in-action photo – below are some of our favourite efforts…

Our team in Gibraltar, ‘Skyfliers’, took the crown for most distance covered, clocking up a whopping 1,069km, eclipsing their 200km target. The team were raising money for Clubhouse Gibraltar, who also got in on the act, even making use of a local boutique fitness studio to help tick off the kilometres!

As usual, the Exec team got involved, utilising a combination of running, walking and cycling to hit their target, under the moniker ‘The Great Eight’. They raised money for Chestnut Tree House, Mustard Tree and Smile for Georgie, surpassing their 651km target to record a total of 1,021km, placing them third in the table.

The winner of the best in-action photo from the week was ‘The Mighty Movers’, a team consisting of Craig Hickey, from our Claims department, alongside his wife and young son. Craig completed 140km over seven days, and to make that feat even more impressive, he covered his distance in fancy dress, with the likes of Captain America and Super Mario making an appearance!

Another special mention goes to ‘The Mighty Team Womble’, winners of the most creative idea. Team member Anna Dilley, from our Performance Function department, showed that you don’t just have to run, walk or cycle to tick off the mileage, as she took to the tennis court to achieve her distance. Anna measured her steps as she played, helping her team beat their 250km target and end up with an impressive tally of 406km.

The wellbeing of our colleagues is paramount here at First Central, and it has been proven that physical activity is a great way to support positive mental health, as it raises your self-esteem and helps you to achieve goals and targets. We’d like to extend a massive congratulations to everyone who took part and helped us reach our targets for our charities – showcasing the perfect way to celebrate Global Collaboration Week.
