Organisers are preparing for the eagerly anticipated EPIC Moonlight Marathon, sponsored by First Central Group, which returns on 28th January 2018.
Registration for the event will open in early December with places strictly limited to 100 runners, 10 of which are being taken up by First Central Group employees, in this unique running experience in aid of Guernsey-based charity This Is EPIC.
The event is not a race, but rather a non-competitive run with the intention that all runners will remain together for the whole course. The participants have a choice of five-kilometre, five-mile, half-marathon and full marathon distance options.
The marathon runners will start outside Octopus Bar and Beach restaurant at 2am and will enjoy a sweep of the island in the peace of the night before picking up those running in the half-marathon, five-mile and five-kilometre distances along the way and sharing a well-deserved breakfast back at Octopus.
EPIC Challenges Co-Founder, Philip Smith, said: “We're so excited for the EPIC Moonlight Marathon to return for its fourth year, it is a truly unique experience running at that time of night and we encourage anyone who hasn’t tried it to sign up.
“Thanks to the continuing support from First Central Group, all the money raised from this event will directly support two projects; implementing more savings and loans groups in Uganda this year and providing two community schools with solar panels. The two schools were funded and started by members of our savings and loans groups in Uganda and the solar panels will allow children to study earlier in the morning and later in the evening. The solar panels will also remove the safety hazard and high cost of using kerosene.”
First Central Group Chief Operating Officer, Simon Walker, said: “Supporting an event which encourages individuals from the Guernsey community to push themselves in a physical challenge like this is right up our street. It’s a great way for people to run in a non-competitive atmosphere, in aid of a very well deserving charity that helps so many people.
“At First Central Group we love helping our staff with their fitness goals and nurturing their growth, we run monthly wellbeing initiatives where we are seeing real benefits so we are excited to continue to promote events which contribute to the wellbeing of our staff and islanders. After the success of EPIC Week during the summer, our employees have started a regular running club and are hoping to take part in this event in January to kick start their fitness in 2018 and work off their Christmas dinners!”
