We're delighted to announce that we've offered bursary agreements to the three digital internship students we mentored over the summer.

Post-16 students Katie Marquand, Thomas Upson and Mikey Chammings spent five weeks with us in July and August this year, as part of the Discover Digital Summer Internship scheme.

The scheme, set up by Startup Guernsey and the Digital Greenhouse, provided students who are passionate about digital technology with practical experience in local companies, highlighting the variety of exciting and challenging careers in the sector.

During their internships, the students worked as part of 'Team Red', giving them an idea of what life is really like for a software developer in a professional organisation. They worked as a self-managing sprint team, planning, organising and committing to their own workloads within our CSR project for the Youth Commission.

The bursaries will give the students the option of financial support for the duration of their university degrees and full-time employment for two years after the completion of their degree.

They have all committed to hands-on work experience over the holidays whilst they look at their long-term career options with First Central Group. They will continue to work on the company’s Youth Commission CSR project or will integrate with existing development teams on other projects.

Operations Manager, Lisa Vidamour, said: “With the success of National Coding Week encouraging people to learn digital skills, it is fitting that we continue to support the growth of Katie, Thomas and Mikey and other young talent on the island as part of our nurture growth initiative.  Every week is coding week at First Central Group!

“We were so impressed by the standard of knowledge and enthusiasm of the students - they made a huge contribution to our team and we're excited to continue our relationships with them and help them to get more experience in the workplace.”
